China’s PC market grows 12% in Q2 to 10.2 million units | Communications Today

The latest data from Canalys, part of Omdia, shows that the Mainland China PC market (excluding tablets) grew by 12% in Q2 2025, to 10.2 million units. Both consumer and commercial PC demand were healthy, with shipments to each segment rising 13% and 12%, respectively. China’s PC market is expected to grow 2% year on year in 2025 and 3% in 2026, boosted by consumer subsidies and refresh cycle momentum from SOEs and government procurement. According to Canalys (part of Omdia) forecast, AI-capable PC adoption is expected to accelerate, accounting for 34% of shipments in 2025 and 52% in 2026.“Effective discounting on the already more competitively priced new MacBook Air model drove significant uptake in Mainland China. On top of that, competition among upstream CPU vendors has also fueled device upgrades, with attractively priced PC products entering the market.“In contrast to the PC market, Mainland China’s tablet market showed relative stability,” said Xu.Canalys (part of Omdia) expects that Mainland China’s tablet market will reach a record high of 34 million units in 2025, up 8% year on year, driven strongly by subsidies in the first half of the year.

AI PCs to surge, claiming over half the market by 2026 – Computerworld

Despite some market hurdles, AI PC adoption is taking hold, with about 143 million units expected to ship next year. Personal computers with AI embedded in the hardware components and software stack are set to hit 77.8 million units in 2025, making up 31% of the global PC market, according to a new study released today by Gartner Research.Large business will be ahead of the curve, Atwal noted, as vendors supply AI PCs to them by end of next year, however large business only make up 12% of the total PC market — so their impact will be less than the consumer PC buyer market.AI PCs have dedicated processors — NPUs, GPUs, and CPUs — to accelerate AI tasks. Those processors are designed specifically for tasks like image recognition, language processing, and other machine learning inferences. Newer AI-specific NPUs (neural processing units) from Intel (Meteor Lake), AMD (Ryzen AI), and Qualcomm (Snapdragon X Elite) are expected to flood the market over the next two years to meet AI PC demand.AI PCs are more than a marketing gimmick — they are a means to improved productivity, Steve Long, senior vice president of Lenovo’s Intelligent Devices Group, said in an earlier interview with Computerworld.

The rise and future of AI PCs in the global market | Digitalisation World

AI PCs will make up 31% of the global PC market by 2025 amid market shifts and user demand for AI integration. The global market for artificial intelligence (AI) personal computers is on the cusp of a remarkable transformation, with projections indicating these advanced machines will account for 31% of PC sales worldwide by the end of 2025. According to technology insights firm Gartner, Inc.He suggests, however, that the market's current situation won't deter users from investing in AI PCs, recognising the need to adapt to edge-based AI technologies.Further forecasts suggest that by 2026, AI PC shipments will escalate to 143 million units, accounting for over half of the market share, and will become standard by 2029.“AI PCs are reshaping the market, but their adoption in 2025 is slowing because of tariffs and pauses in PC buying caused by market uncertainty,” said Ranjit Atwal, Sr Director Analyst at Gartner.

For the full year, PCD vendors shipped 407.6 million devices, up 4.8% from 2023. ... “Though the market has been experiencing a slower return to growth, there was some room for optimism in Q4 as government subsidies in China led to better than expected performance within the consumer segment,” said Jitesh Ubrani, research manager with IDC’s Worldwide Mobile Device Trackers.Meanwhile, tablets are not expected to fare much better as shipments are anticipated to shrink 0.8% in 2025 to 143.3 million and the market faces a slight gradual decline, reaching 141.6 million units by the end of 2029 due mostly to consumer saturation. In addition to form factor-specific trends, the commercial space will be the main driver for the gains in 2025. Commercial PC volume (including Education PCs) grew 2% in 2024, driven by some large deals and modest Windows 11 migration volume.Beyond 2025, IDC forecasts sub 1% growth each year through 2029 for the traditional PC market, due in part from volume stabilization following Windows 11 migration.“When the industry is trying to push new AI PCs that come with higher cost at a time when use cases are still being vetted and budgets are tight, that is clearly going to be a challenge. But on-device AI for PCs is inevitable, therefore, right now it is about suppliers trying to be patient as their customers are dealing with headwinds unrelated to these technology advancements.” · Looking ahead to 2025, weakening market sentiment and U.S.

AMD's PC graphics card market share falls to a worrying 6% according to the latest analyst data putting Nvidia at 94% and probably an all-time high | PC Gamer

But AMD has taken a big chunk out of Intel in CPUs. JPR reckons that AMD's share of the add-in graphics card market has fallen to a miserable 6%, leaving Nvidia with the remaining 94% of the market. There's much better news for AMD when it comes to CPUs. But let's deal with the GPU disaster first. According to JPR, AMD had 12% of the PC graphics card market a year ago.So, as we mentioned when noting RDNA 4's absence from the latest Steam PC hardware survey, that implies AMD really hasn't made many 9070 and 9070 XT GPUs at all. Demand is clearly outstripping supply, but the cards just aren't showing up in third-party data, be that Steam or JPR's analysis. What we're getting at here, to be clear, is that there's no way AMD can make a dent in Nvidia's market share if it's only producing a very small number of GPUs.For the second quarter of 2025, JPR reckons that Intel's client CPU market share in PCs and laptops, not servers and data centers, has fallen to 67% from 71% in the previous quarter and 76% in the second quarter of 2024. So, Intel is nearly 10% down in just one year.In the end, all we can say for sure is that AMD's GPU market share can't really get much worse. It's already teetering on the edge of oblivion. Here's hoping this is one heck of a lull before a storm of RX 9060 and 9060 XT sales data arrives next quarter. ... Intel’s 14th-gen Core Ultra (Meteor Lake) and upcoming Lunar Lake chips introduced built-in AI engines, as did AMD’s Ryzen 7040 series (branded “Ryzen AI”) and Qualcomm’s 8cx Gen3 – all hitting the market by 2024–25.That would be roughly 37–40% of all PCs sold ghacks.net io-fund.com. Gartner’s latest study (Aug 2025) projects 77.8 million AI PCs in 2025 (31% of the market) computerworld.com, but also notes adoption could surpass earlier expectations, given strong commercial demand. In absolute terms, that could mean roughly 140–150 million AI PCs in 2026 (depending on total PC market size). In Q2 2025, AMD’s desktop CPU unit share rose to 32.2%, a gain of 4.2% sequentially and a robust 9.2% YoY.Intel maintained a strong lead in mobile PCs with a unit share of 79.4% in Q2 2025, which is up 1.9% from the previous quarter, but a drop of 0.3% from the same quarter a year ago. AMD's mobile CPU unit share came in at 20.6%, down 1.9% QoQ but still up 0.3% year-over-year. Given how competitive AMD's higher-end Ryzen AI processors for laptops are, we can only wonder how Intel manages to win market share from its small rival, but the numbers speak for themselves and show that AMD has lost market share for two consecutive quarters.

Jon Peddie Research suggests that this increase was driven by tariff concerns, especially as the U.S. government has been announcing and delaying massive import taxes on many semiconductor products, including GPUs. Despite this, the research firm anticipates that the GPU market will decrease by 5.4% between 2024 and 2028.If the projected shrinkage of the market holds, this increase is likely a temporary blip driven by tariffs and the artificial GPU shortage.
